Coronavirus: UK travel ban imposed to South Korean city

A ban has been imposed on Britons travelling to Daegu in South Korea due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The Foreign Office today issued advice against all travel to the city, where most of Korea’s cases of the virus are centred.

The restriction has been imposed due to “increased incidence of community transmission and increasing pressure on medical services” in the city.

The FCO has also advised against all but essential travel to Cheongdo.

The FCO said: ”The government of South Korea has designated Daegu and Cheongdo as ‘special care zones’ due to the high number of cases of coronavirus.

“If you’re already in Daegu or Cheongdo you should follow the instructions and advice of the local authorities.

“The government of South Korea has announced that foreign nationals who have been in Hubei province in China within the previous 14 days will not be allowed to enter South Korea.

“There is an ongoing risk of coronavirus throughout South Korea, with a growing number of cases across the country in recent days, including instances of community-based transmission.

“It may cause more severe symptoms in older people, and those with pre-existing medical conditions. You should exercise caution throughout the country, and follow the advice of local authorities.”

South Korea is suffering the worst coronavirus outbreak outside China.

The country has reported 3,730 cases and 21 deaths so far.

Around 140,000 British people visit the country every year with most visits being trouble-free.
