Scenic boosts programme with South American tours

Scenic Tours has introduced a range of escorted tours in South America, featuring “must-see highlights and little-known gems” for 2019-20.

The operator previously offered tours to South America only as an add-on to cruises on board Scenic Eclipse.

Prices start at £7,645 for the 19-day Icons of South America tour, departing October 14. The itinerary starts in Lima and visits Machu Picchu, Cuzco, Iguazu Falls, Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires.

There will be further departures in 2020.

Other itineraries include the 22-day Icons of South America & Amazon Cruise (from £9,495), 26-day Icons of South America & Patagonia (from £11,545) and 29-day Incas, Amazon & Wilderness (from £13,595).

Small-group tours include “once-in-a-lifetime” Scenic Enrich experiences, such as dining at a popular closed-door restaurant in Buenos Aires.

Scenic Freechoice excursions include the chance to spot wildlife on a walk through Rio’s Jardim Botânico; exploring Buenos Aires’ urban art scene; a visit to the archaeological site of Moray, which dates back to the Incas; and a trip to Peru’s salt pans.

Trade sales director Joseph Grimley said: “Scenic’s luxury escorted tours have always performed incredibly well in North America, and as a result of our guests’ appetite for South America, we chose to expand our product offering to more exciting locations.

“Our customers are particularly interested in experiences that aren’t on the typical tourist trail. Itineraries including cruising the Amazon and Galapagos Islands have proven very popular.”
