Vienna is being added to All Nippon Airways’ European network of routes from Tokyo next year.
Daily non-stop flights have been scheduled to start on February 17.
The move will heighten the Austrian capital’s position as a growing hub through an ANA joint venture with Austrian Airlines and access to the wider Lufthansa Group.
The addition of Vienna brings ANA’s total number of European non-stop flights to eight and marks the seventh city in Europe and the 44th city outside Japan to be served by the airline.
Demand for flights to Europe has increased in part due to the strengthened economic relationship between Japan and the European Union, accordinf to the airline which is among sponsors of next year’s Abta Travel Convention in Tokyo.
ANA will operate 215-seat Boeing 787-9 Dreamlinber aircraft in a two-class configuration on the route from Tokyo’s Haneda airport.
The airline’s senior vice president Seiichi Takahashi said: “Next year Japan and Austria will commemorate the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and we are pleased to make our award-winning air travel more convenient for travellers from both nations.
“Vienna is known as the historical and geographical gateway to central and eastern Europe, and we look forward to strengthening ties between Japan and this dynamic region by offering flights that are ideal for business travellers and tourists.”
