Fred Olsen Cruise Lines passengers hit and killed by car on Oman excursion

Two British women have died after being struck by a car while on an excursion during a Fred Olsen Cruise Lines’ Boudicca ship in the Middle East.

The pair were hit by a car as as they stepped off a coach in Salalah, Oman, at around 11am on September 27. They had been on Fred Olsen’s Authentic Arabia sailing.

According to Royal Oman Police, the driver did not have a licence and veered into the wrong lane.

A third Briton was also seriously injured and taken to hospital, where he is said to be in a stable condition.

A Fred Olsen statement read: “The guests were on an excursion to Souq Al Haffa in Salalah when they were struck by a car, having alighted from their tour bus.

“Further investigations into the accident are ongoing.”

Fred Olsen confirmed the passengers’ families have been informed and arrangements are being made to reunite them with loved-ones.

“The safety of all guests and crew is Fred Olsen’s utmost priority,” the statement added. “We continue to work closely with the local tour operator, the authorities in Salalah and Oman and the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office to provide full support to all those affected.

“A crew member from Boudicca has remained behind in hospital with the injured guest, and a senior member of Fred Olsen’s UK Head Office team has flown to Salalah to provide additional assistance.”

Boudicca is currently on a 14-night Authentic Arabia fly-cruise, which departed Jordan on September 20.

The cruise will conclude in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on October 3.
