Saga adds Himalaya trekking and mountain gorilla spotting tours

Over-50s specialist Saga has added escorted tours to trek the Himalayas and spot mountain gorillas in Uganda.

The 13-night Trekking in the Himalayas tour marks 65 years since British explorer Sir Edmund Hillary conquered Mount Everest.

It includes a blessing from a Buddhist lama, Kathmandu and the valleys of the Annapurnas.

Departures from Heathrow or Manchester are available between October 2018 and November 2019, with prices from £2,499pp.

Saga’s Gorillas of Uganda tour, which it claims doubles the guest’s chances of seeing the endangered mountain species, takes place in a group of no more than 14.

It features treks through Bwindi, Kibale and Queen Elizabeth national parks with the chance to spot chimpanzees and a rare tree-climbing lion.

The 11-night tour also features a hike on Mount Rwenzori, a six-hour scenic drive to Lake Mburu National Park to see impala and zebra and a cruise on the Kazinga Channel.

Prices start from £3,799pp departing Heathrow on selected 2019 dates.
