TravelSupermarket reports spike in Tunisia interest as holidays resume

TravelSupermarket is claiming a 55% surge in interest in holidays to Tunisia as Thomas Cook resumed flights to the north African country

The interest to the holiday comparison website was sparked by news coverage of Thomas Cook taking British tourists back to the destination for the first time since the terrorist massacre of 30 holidaymakers in Sousse in June 2015.

Thomas Cook resumed operations yesterday (Tuesday) with flights from Manchester and Birmingham, followed by Gatwick today.

The operator as so far taken 15,000 UK bookings up to the end of the summer. Tui is to return to Tunisia with flights from the UK in May.

A TravelSupermarket spokeswoman said: “Although it will take some time for Tunisia to get back to welcoming anywhere near its tourism numbers in 2015, it has long been a popular choice for British holidaymakers, and the increase in searches we have seen shows a clear appetite for a return to the country.

“Security has been increased in the destination, however, as with anywhere, holidaymakers should always keep a close eye on Foreign Office advice before both booking and travelling abroad.”
