Barrhead Travel predicts healthy 2018 as sales outstrip the market

Scottish agency chain Barrhead Travel claims to be outstripping industry booking levels for 2018 by 14%.

The company says bookings for next summer are up by 21% against figures from industry analyst GfK showing a 7% increase.

The agency’s winter bookings are reported to be up by 37% year-on-year.

Top summer destinations include Orlando, Cancun and Dubai alongside traditional destinations such as Tenerife and Majorca.

Asia continues to grow in popularity, with bookings to Japan up 139%, Vietnam 111% and China 75%.

Barrhead Travel’s cruise division mirrors the overall increase, with summer 2018 cruise bookings up by 23% and winter bookings showing growth of 27%.

Chief executive Sharon Munro said: “I am delighted that our forward sales for 2018 are so positive, especially in comparison to overall trade figures.

“Despite the uncertainty regarding Brexit, Barrhead Travel looks set to have another year of healthy sales in 2018.”

She added: “We witnessed it before during the last recession; holidays remain a priority for many families across the country.

“Now more than ever, holidaymakers are returning to their trusted high street travel agent to ensure they get the best possible value for money and to guarantee financial protection.”
