Princess Cruises delays Ocean Medallion roll-out

Princess Cruises has delayed the complete roll-out of Ocean Medallion technology so the line can ‘fine-tune’ the product.

The wearable technology which serves as a room key, onboard charge card and a virtual concierge was unveiled on Regal Princess to a select number of passengers last month.

Ocean Medallion technology was set to launch on Royal Princess in January before being rolled out on Caribbean Princess, Island Princess, Golden Princess, Crown Princess and Ruby Princess later in the year.

This is the second time the technology’s full roll-out has been delayed.

In a statement, Princess Cruises said it wanted to take the time “required to successfully incorporate all refinements to achieve excellence”.

The statement read: “The launch of Ocean Medallion Vacations, offering enhanced and personalised experiences, is well underway aboard Regal Princess.

“During this time we are gathering real-time guest and technology feedback which is allowing us to identify a number of refinements and enhancements we feel we need to make.

“Further fine-tuning is sure to happen as this initial activation plan expands in scope to more guests and eventually the full ship.

“We are confident that once you do experience Ocean Medallion, it will be more than worth the wait and exceed your expectations.”
