Emirates reports record UK passenger carryings in July

Emirates today reported a record July from its six UK gateway airports with more than 265,000 passengers flown to Dubai and onwards.

The airline is now on track to carry five million passengers between the UK and Dubai in the 2017-18 financial year, against 4.92 million the previous 12 months.

More than 140,000 passengers flew out of Heathrow and Gatwick, more than 48,000 from Manchester, 40,000 from Birmingham, 22,000 from Glasgow and 12,000 from Newcastle.

Besides Dubai, the top destinations from the UK last month were Bangkok, Phuket, Mauritius, Maldives and Bali.

The record month comes as the airline celebrates its 30th year of operations in the UK. Carryings from the UK in July 1987 reached 4,000.

UK vice president Laurie Berryman said: “July has been a phenomenal month for us across all our gateways – showing the nationwide appeal of our services and the growing importance of our regional hubs.

“With 265,000 passengers carried in the UK and 30 successful years under our belts, we look forward to the future and to more records being smashed.”
