Police called following flight chaos at Palma airport

Police were called in to deal with long queues at Palma airport after several airlines cancelled flights, blaming weather and crew shortages.

Hundreds of travellers were only notified of the cancellations after arriving at the Spanish airport on Sunday, while others were informed by reps at their hotels.

Ryanair, Norwegian and easyJet were all criticised by holidaymakers for either long delays or cancelled flights.

It is not year clear what caused the delays, according to reports.

Other passengers complained about chaotic management at the airport, with boarding gates for some flights, including Ryanair’s Palma to Bristol route, being switched four times.

Local police were also drafted in to deal with huge queues at passport control, caused by large numbers of British passengers.

A Norwegian spokesman told Sun Online: “We are very sorry to passengers for the cancellation of Norwegian services from Palma to London Gatwick this weekend, caused by a lack of crew.

“Passengers were updated by text message and offered free flight rebooking or a full refund, and our staff also booked a number of passengers onto alternative flights with other airlines – we would like to sincerely apologise again for the inconvenience caused.”
