Wizz Air records 20% increase in passenger numbers

Lowcost carrier Wizz Air has seen its passenger numbers increase by more than 20% to more than 27 million in its last trading year.

The airline has seen its load factor increase from 88.3% in the year ending May 31 2016 to 90.5% in the year to May 31 2017.

Capacity went up from 23.3 million in the year ending May 2016 to 27.35 million in the  year ending 2017, a rise of 17.4% while passenger numbers rose 20.3%.

Wizz Air took 24.7 million passengers in the last year, up 20.3% from 20.6 million in the year ending May 2016.

The airline says it is continuing to expand its network, having expanded its base in Belgrade, Serbia and expanding its network to cover 141 airports in the last year.

It now has 81 aircraft in its fleet.
