Travel agent scoops £24k on Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel

Travel agent Richard Lowrey-Heywood from Cumbria scooped £24,000 by answering the winning question on Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel.

He told the host and celebrities on the quiz that he would spend the money on having fun with his family and take his kids to Florida.

Lowrey-Heywood – a contact centre agent for Jet2.com and Jet2holidays – appeared on the BBC game show on New Year’s Day, along with two other contestants, Calvin from Surrey and Jess from Cardiff.

Early in the show, he answered a question correctly about tipping in restaurants but looked out of the running with a wrong answer about fashion label logos.

However, he struck lucky as the randomly spinning giant wheel meant he was in the hot seat for the final prize question.

With help from food critic Grace Dent, he correctly answered the question: “Which of these battles took place at sea?” as they agreed on Trafalgar as their reply.

Along with Dent, celebrities on the show were Matt Baker, Gyles Brandreth, Maggie Aderin-Pocock, HRVY, Laura Whitmore and Mr Motivator.

At the start of the show, Lowrey-Heywood said he worked from home and has “two lovely children and a brilliant husband”.

He said his winnings would be “fun money” to spend on the kids, adding: “I do not need a sofa and I’ve got a kettle!”
