Landal GreenParks to open eco-resort in Scotland

Landal GreenParks is to open a new multimillion pound eco-friendly holiday resort in Scotland which it believes will act as a ‘blueprint for the future of the sector’.

The holiday park operator, part of Awaze, which also owns Hoseasons, has worked with architects and interior designers to create new styles of lodges at the park, which it claims will be one of the “greenest and most technologically advanced” in Europe.

Landal Barnsoul, set in ancient woodland in Dumfries & Galloway in the southwest of Scotland, will open in the late spring this year.

Paul Hardingham, managing director of Landal GreenParks UK, believes the park is at the cutting edge of the next generation of UK holiday accommodation and will revolutionise the sector.

He said: “We have wanted to create a concept holiday resort since launching in the UK five years ago and believe this site will act as a blueprint for the future of the sector.

“To help us achieve this objective we have worked with architects and interior designers to create new lodge styles to offer the very best of modern and innovative living in a wonderful part of the UK countryside.

“Not only is the accommodation innovative, it will all be underpinned by very strong environmental credentials, making the resort one of the greenest and most technologically advanced parks in Europe.”

The site will create 50 new local jobs once complete.

The lodges at the park have been created and developed to offer a range of luxury accommodation styles. The first, crated by Studio Anyo, are the Torp lodges, which are designed to combine the outdoor experience of modern glamping with the interior look and feel of a boutique hotel.

Studio Anyo chief executive James Walsh said the lodges would provide a new UK holiday experience in 2022. He added:  “There is a real lack of design products in the lodge and park sector, which meet the demands of a luxury experience that is close to nature.”

The second new accommodation style, Outdoor Sanctuaries, created by Baca Architects, offers design-led living in low impact tower structures built with recycled materials.

Baca Architects’ Richard Coutts said: “We wanted to design accommodation that was different from anything else on the market but was underpinned by the principles of getting closer to nature and built in a sustainable way.”

The new park is being build in three phases, the first of which will include 40 cabins and a coffee house providing local farm produce, and a central reception area.

The next two phases will see the construction of 220 cabins and a complex with a restaurant, indoor pool, spa and baths and experience-led activities.

In keeping with the park’s environmental build, the resort will be powered by green energy with renewable power generation on site in the form of PV and wind turbines. There will be a ‘zero to landfill’ policy, with no single use plastics on sale at the site, while extensive tree planting and a wildflower meadow are planned.
