New Princess Cruises ship completes sea trials

Princess Cruises’ ship Discovery Princess has completed its sea trials at the Fincantieri Shipyard in Italy.

The 3,660-passenger vessel’s steering, navigation equipment and propulsion were tested over five days on the water.

It is now back in the shipyard in Monfalcone.

Discovery Princess’ maiden seven-night Mexican Riviera voyage out of the Port of Los Angeles departs on March 27, 2022.

Sister ship Enchanted Princess was officially named in an online ceremony aired on the line’s Facebook page and YouTube channel earlier this month.

Discovery Princess is the sixth and final Royal-class vessel to join the line’s fleet. Other Royal-class vessels include Sky Princess, Majestic Princess, Regal Princess and Royal Princess.

The soon-to-launch Royal-class vessel will sail a mix of Mexican Riviera and California coast voyages between March 27 and April 24 next year, before heading to Seattle in the US to operate seven-night Alaska sailings.

The vessel has Sky Suites with a 270-degree views from their balconies and the adults-only retreat area called The Sanctuary.
