Maiden voyage delay for Emerald Cruises’ Azzurra

Emerald Cruises’ first oceangoing luxury superyacht, Emerald Azzurra, will depart on its maiden voyage on March 11, after its debut was delayed from January.

In November, the new 100-passenger ship successfully completed its first sea trials ahead of a planned maiden voyage on January 28, 2022.

But now the first eight-day Best of the Red Sea itinerary is scheduled to start in two months’ time, on March 11, sailing a round-trip from Aqaba in Jordan.

Emerald Azzurra will sail a second itinerary in the Red Sea ahead of its spring and summer season sailing in the Mediterranean and the Adriatic.

The ship can reach ports and harbours that are only accessible to small yachts, and it can offer watersport activities such as snorkelling and paddle boarding.

Facilities include an infinity-style pool on the top deck and a wellness centre with a spa, gym, and sauna.

The eight-day Best of the Red Sea itinerary will call at ports in Egypt and Israel.

Emerald global brand and marketing director David Winterton said: “Due to the continually changing travel landscape and to ensure our guests receive the very best experience when travelling with us, we have made the difficult decision to adjust the inaugural sailings of our new superyacht, Emerald Azzurra.

“Originally planned for January 2022, Emerald Azzurra’s inaugural sailing will now take place in March 2022. All guests have been contacted regarding their bookings and alternative cruises offered.

“The safety and security of all guests and crew continues to be our number one priority and we can’t wait to welcome guests onboard our newest yacht in the spring.”
