Air India increases UK connectivity to ‘bolster international footprint’

Air India has added 20 additional weekly flights to Birmingham, London and Los Angeles as it aims “to bolster its international footprint”.

The extra flights will be introduced in phases between October and December 2022 and mean the carrier will offer more than 5,000 more seats.

Air India’s schedule to the UK has increased from 34 flights to 48 flights per week.

Birmingham airport will receive an extra five weekly flights – three from Delhi and two from Amritsar – while Heathrow will receive nine additional weekly flights – five from Mumbai, three from Delhi and one from Ahmedabad.

Flights from India to the United States will also increase from 34 to 40 per week.

Campbell Wilson, Air India chief executive and managing director, said: “This sizeable frequency comes just 10 months after Air India’s acquisition by the Tata Group.

“It’s a clear sign of our intent and an early step towards a much bigger aspiration.”
