1. Mikrolimano

For a taste of the Greek coast, clients can stroll down to Mikrolimano, meaning ’little harbour’ (pictured above). The shell-shaped marina has a bench-lined boulevard from which to admire a rainbow of fishing boats, sip a traditional Greek coffee at one of its cafes or taste the catch of the day at one of its fine seafood restaurants.

Varoulko Seaside, led by Piraeus-born chef Lefteris Lazarou, is featured in the Michelin Guide. The kumquat-laced sea bass carpaccio is best paired with a zesty white wine and views from the terrace.

This seafront skyscraper is Greece’s second-tallest building, at 88 metres, but it lay abandoned for decades until a recent restoration project brought it back to life.

A short walk from the main metro station in Piraeus, it now houses an array of fashion boutiques, an alfresco lounge bar and a food court.

3. Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center

A short taxi ride from the port is the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, an impressive Renzo Piano-designed complex that’s home to Greece’s National Library, National Opera and an array of sports facilities.

The glass-walled building is surrounded by the world’s largest public Mediterranean garden, a huge park filled with footpaths, water features and fragrant olive trees. Clients can catch a show, watch the sunset or even take the family to the musical garden and dancing fountains.

4. Municipal Theatre

One of the grandest neoclassical buildings in Piraeus, this theatre, built in 1895, is all marble and columns on the outside with an opulent, red velvet-covered opera house on the inside.

The theatre has hosted illustrious Greek musicians such as Mikis Theodorakis, composer of the famed Zorba the Greek soundtrack, and has regular performances of opera, ballet and classical concerts.

5. Karaiskakis Stadium

The Olympiacos Museum opened in this football stadium last year, with 20 installations exploring the 100-year history of Greece’s most successful club.

Clients can get a glimpse of the Uefa Conference League Trophy that Olympiacos won in 2024, spot the shirts of star players and try to keep score against a virtual goalkeeper.
