Tailor Made Travel to close 15 stores in autumn hibernation plans

Welsh travel agency chain Tailor Made Travel will temporarily close 15 of its 20 stores this autumn as it acts to save the business.

Agents have been told by chief executive Simon Morgan that the firm must act to save the business until there is a Covid-19 vaccine available and travel can resume as normal.

Tailor Made expects to confirm which five ‘crisis stores’ remain open and staffing arrangements in coming days after directors meet to discuss plans to scale down the business.

Staff in the 15 stores will be invited to join a homeworking operation which Morgan hopes will bridge the period from the ending of the government’s furlough scheme to next spring.

He said: “We have excellent 2021 forward bookings and this measure will ensure the survival of the company though this terrible time”

“I continue to hope and pray that our government will see sense and step in to help the travel trade. Sadly, we cannot wait to see if this happens – we must act now to save the business.”
