Government promises travel corridors list ‘in good time’

The government is working “very intensively” on travel corridors that would allow holidaymakers to travel overseas without being subject to quarantine restrictions, according to health secretary Matt Hancock.

Leading the government Covid-19 briefing on Monday, Hancock promised publication of a list of destinations to which people would be able to travel “in good time” for the review date of the quarantine policy in a week’s time.

Hancock said: “A lot of work is being done on travel corridors. I spent a lot of the weekend working on this myself.”

He declined to give details but said: “We have a formal review date on the quarantine policy on June 29. We will make sure that in good time for that we publish where we think people will be able to travel to.”

Hancock insisted: “We are working on it very intensively.”

But he added: “It is important we have a quarantine policy in place because in places the infection rate is shooting up.”
