Former Virgin Holidays purchasing director John Taker seeking new role

Former Virgin Holidays and dnata purchasing director John Taker is seeking a new role in the travel industry after being made redundant from luxury operator Scott Dunn last month.

Taker joined Scott Dunn in April 2019 as global product director but was made redundant as a result of the coronavirus crisis.

He was previously purchasing director of Virgin Holidays for 10 years, before moving to Kuoni’s GTA as vice-president of global beach & Europe and then spending two years in Dubai as purchasing director for dnata/Emirates.

He suffered from coronavirus symptoms in the early stage of the pandemic but returned to join Scott Dunn’s crisis management team and lead supplier negotiations over refunds.

He said: “Despite the obvious personal impact from suddenly losing your livelihood, I have actually enjoyed some elements of lockdown, most notably having our three children return to the nest, some rather dubious looking haircuts, daily walks with our two Newfoundland dogs and volunteering to support my elderly neighbours in our local community.”
