Record number of votes cast in Silver Travel Awards

A record 200,000 votes have been cast in the 2020 Silver Travel Awards.

The Best Travel Agency award, supported by Travel Weekly, is among the 22 categories, with voting open until May 31.

Silver Travel Advisor is encouraging travel companies and their staff to have their say before the deadline.

Entries are still being sought from travel companies and travel agents for the three judged Silver-i awards for Innovation, which are free to enter on a self-nominated basis, and honour the travel company, travel agent or destination that has delivered outstandingly for the mature traveller since June 2019 in one or more of the following areas:

Breakthrough: Product innovation or development

Footprint: Responsible or sustainable travel initiatives

Paper: Outstanding print advertising in either the trade or consumer press

Debbie Marshall, managing director of Silver Travel Advisor, said: ‘‘The limitations of lockdown and constraints on travel at the moment seem to have spurred record numbers of older travellers to vote for the travel companies and travel agents that have delivered the best for the over 50s over the last year.  With over 200,000 votes already cast, the competition to win one of the 22 Silver Travel Consumer Awards is hotting-up – but there is still time for things to change as voting doesn’t close until the end of May, and in several categories, it’s a close-run thing at the moment.’’

‘’Meanwhile, the Silver-I judged awards could be the perfect opportunity for hard-pressed travel professionals to add a gong to their CV.”

Entries are invited from tour operators, travel agents and cruise companies that will be judged by a panel of leading independent travel industry figures and veterans. Entry is via written submission of no more than 500 words, together with supporting images, to be submitted by Sunday May 31, 2020. Email service@silvertraveladvisor.com for an entry form.

The Silver-i awards will be judged by two panels of travel industry veterans including:

  • Lucy Huxley, Travel Weekly
  • Mark Palmer – Travel Editor, the Daily Mail
  • Derek Jones – Kuoni
  • Sally Winfield – Accord
  • Nicola Bradley – Global
  • Nicole Mason – Just You
  • James Clarke – Travelzoo
  • Derek Moore – Aito
  • Jane Atkins – Shearings Holidays
  • Laurence Hicks – Tourhound
  • Jeanette Harper – Avis
  • David Winterton – Emerald Waterways
