London on map as Emirates signals resumption of flights

Heathrow is one of nine destinations Emirates plans to reinstate with flights offered via Dubai to Australia.

In a move mirroring Gulf rival Etihad Airways, Emirates aims to run connections between London and Melbourne as well as Sydney from May 21.

The airline stressed that travellers will only be accepted on the flights if they comply with the eligibility and entry criteria requirements of their destination countries.

The UK government is introducing a 14-day quarantine for all arrivals and similar restrictions remain in place in Australia to limit the spread of coronavirus.

The other points to be served from Dubai include Frankfurt, Paris, Milan, Madrid, Chicago and Toronto.

Passengers will face temperature checks at Dubai airport while facemasks and gloves are mandatory.

Chief operating officer Adel Al Redha said: “We are pleased to resume scheduled passenger services to these destinations, providing more options for customers to travel from the UAE to these cities, and also between the UK and Australia.

“We are working closely with the authorities to plan the resumption of operations to additional destinations.

“We have implemented additional measures at the airport in co-ordination with the relevant authorities in respect to social distancing and sanitisation.

“The safety and well-being of our employees, customers and communities, remain our top priority.”

Emirates is continuing to run repatriation flights from Dubai to Tokyo on May 15, plus Conakry in Guinea and Dakar in Senegal the following day.
