Updated: G Adventures UK sales chief among redundancies

G Adventures UK and Ireland sales director Tom Bell has been made redundant after less than six months with the company as part of a number of job losses.

He joined the operator in October to oversee its ten-strong on-the-road sales team.

Bell joined from Hotelbeds Group, where he was regional manager for UK and Ireland at Bedsonline.

G Adventures said: “In response to the impact of Covid-19 on the travel industry, in mid-March we made the tough decision to exit a number of individuals from our business globally, including seven individuals from the UK workforce.

“These measures were taken to right-size the company and these were roles that will not be required in the immediate future.

“This action was taken prior to the UK government’s introduction of a furlough scheme, which we have since been able to leverage and have placed 40% of UK staff on furlough.”

Bell said in a posting on LinkedIn: “Unfortunately due to the current economic situation, I’ve been made redundant from my role as director of sales at G Adventures.

“It’s clearly disappointing but times are hard at the moment and I’m lucky to have a great family who I’m spending a lot more time with.

“I’ve already had some great support from previous colleagues and managers along with family and friends which I’m extremely grateful for.”

He added: “I’m looking for a new opportunity within sales to utilise my skill set in strategy, leadership and development, to name a few, so please get in touch if you know of anything suitable.”

Brian Young, G Adventures managing director, said: “As the travel industry continues to deal with the impact of Covid-19, we have taken the necessary measures to ensure we are well-positioned to succeed long into the future.

“As a part of this, we have made the tough decision to exit our director of sales Tom Bell and our trade partners will continue to be supported by our national sales manager Stu Darnley.”

Bell previously worked for Midlands Co-Op Travel for seven years where he oversaw the call centre and led account management for 174 shops.
