Coronavirus: EU to ban non-essential foreign arrivals

The EU is planning to ban foreign arrivals into Europe for 30 days.

President of the EU commission Ursula von der Leyen said there would be some exceptions for certain groups, including long-term residents of the EU, family members of EU nationals and diplomats.

Essential staff including doctors and nurses helping address the pandemic will also be allowed to continue to travel to the EU.

People transporting goods will be exempt “to continue the supply of goods that are needed” during the outbreak, she said.
