New aviation minister confirmed

The Department for Transport has confirmed Kelly Tolhurst MP as the next aviation minister.

Tolhurst, the MP for Rochester and Strood since 2015, was one of three ministers appointed by the Department for Transport earlier this week, reporting into Transport Secretary Grant Shapps.

Her responsibilities also extend to maritime, security and civil contingencies.

Until prime minister Boris Johnson’s reshuffle, Tolhurst was parliamentary under-secretary of state at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, a role she began in July 2018.

It follows the appointment of Nigel Huddlestone as tourism minister on Monday, who is serving as the under-secretary of state at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport, reporting to secretary of state Oliver Dowden, who replaced Baroness Morgan in the reshuffle.
