Visit Portugal joins Atas as associate member

Visit Portugal has joined the Association of Touring and Adventure Suppliers (Atas) as an associate member to promote the country as a soft adventure and year-round destination.

The Algarve is traditionally known as a summer holiday destination, but the tourist board hopes to attract travellers in the winter months via its soft adventure options including walking, cycling, horse riding and surfing holidays.

A spokesperson for Visit Portugal said: “We want to promote how really easy it is to travel around and mix activities like cycling with surf or mix a city break with walking in nature.”

“In less than 40 minutes by train from Lisbon city centre, travellers can be immersed in outdoor activities, either bird watching in the Tejo Estuary, or surf in Carcavelos or do a walking trail in Sintra.”

Additionally, the tourist board is promoting Portugal’s work in sustainability, environmentally, socially and economically, where tourism generates a share of Portugal’s GDP and creates jobs year round.
