Thomas Cooks troubles can be gauged by reading the 1800 or so complaints listed on the Thomas Cook Forum [please do a Google Search for Thomas Cook Forum to bring up these complaints] Please read the five first pages of complaints and the replies given to the complainers by Thomas Cook staff, having read them, then afterwards " Please ask yourself is this response fair to the complainers and do I want to deal with this company.
To avoid Court Action Thomas Cook are currently offering disgruntled clients Thomas Cook Holiday Vouchers which if they go bust are worthless. To use these vouchers you have to book another holiday with them which most complainers are reluctant to do. The main question is: Will Thomas Cook be around in 2012, and if so will you recover any money from ATOL the Holiday Insurers within 3- 6 months, thats if Thomas Cook go bust and does ATOL have the huge funds required to underwrite an estimated £ Multi-Million pound hit! Please read this 2010 press news about TC German owners who have gone bust in Germany. The trade press in the UK are saying avoid Thomas Cook, this is why there share price is now pennies per share and dropping in value rapidly. [ A Google Search provided this additional information]>
The majority owner of Thomas Cook, the German retail giant Arcandor has applied to go into bankruptcy, however Thomas Cook's is ring fenced from it's 52% owner, so will not be affected. Arcandor which employs 50,000 people owns the German Kardstat department store, Primondo and Quelle mail order businesses all of which are hoped to be saved by being sold to competitors. The shareholding in Thomas Cook will most likely be sold to a rival or have the shares put on the open market.
HA HA - is the person who worte the above demented???
Get with the programme..... Thomas Cook (Despite debt) is in a Stronger position than ever. And, once the asset sales ahev been completed, and the necessary stores closed... the Sleeker, Leaner and more profitable Thomas Cook will, no doubt, still be going for another 170 years.
I couldnt help but laugh when I read the above comment. Seriously though... How many times does one have to say something, before they believe it to be true....
Long Live Thomas Cook and all its fantastic staff...
Pheelinphunki
To true, Thomas Cook are very sound with profits of 320 million I bet a lot of company's would like to be in that position.
I have gone from laughing to groaning and wonder if anyone is behind this attempt to cause TC to go bust? Seems very strange such a strong profitable brand is under such heavy attack.
Well Said Nickbroadland...
I was also quite dumbfounded at the amount of attacks against a company thats been in the British heratage for generations... From what I can gather, there are people out there who would love to see this company go bust... That is until... it would likely take down most small agencies (no opffence or debate to those that dont sell TC products), as well as overseas hotels and suppliers, and when there are simply not enough holidays to serve the UK market. Not to mention the 16k strong UK workforce who would then be on the dole....
Is it really necessary for the hate campaginers to want such a tragedy? I would hope not.
Thomas Cook Offers value for money, protection, and a great workforce (on the whole, all company's have their bag eggs).... I have always, and would always (working in the travel industry or not) book, and trust Thomas Cook.
I rest my case. Good Luck to the TC team... Things have been so awful for you over the last few weeks/months.... Keep living your PROUD values, and let the hate brigade bang on and on... They will get bored eventually, until another travel firm upsets them....
As the band D:REAM once sang...... Things Can Only Get Better !!!
And, on a final note....
1800 complaints vs 6 million holidays = a complaint ratio of 0.03%
Hmmmmm......
What utter rubbish, having done the search as you suggest and then reading through some complaints, you clearly did not read them. For example how does confiscation of alcohol by Customs and Excise fall under TCook jurisdiction?
As for your little statement about Arcandor which happened 2 and half before TCook current hiccup, do you really believe that has any impact on current trading?
As for complainers reluctant to book, most complainers complain for the sake of complaining and getting something for nothing.
So get real, and actually try to make an arguement you can win instead of just jumping on the "We Hate Thomas Cook" bandwagon.
Also its standard to give the customers vouchers back as a form of compensation. it makes better business sense for them to do this, rather for them to give cash so they can book at a competitior
So Cleveland Park what is your role within the TUI operation? Is it morally correct that TUI retail staff are still warning customers about Thomas Cook going bust? Basically it is a cheap shot
YER the complaint ratio is because they won't pick up the phone or answer the complaints on the various sites they purport to have advisors standing by to answer questions. I have been attempting to contact by all the means above for 4weeks to no avail. Thomascook Customer Service is not fit for purpose. As for the rest of the company, if it is run on the same lines as Customer Services/ Contact us maybe it deservbes to die.
Chunky
