A question related to the Travel Weekly homepage poll I'm running this week...

Personally I love Scandinavian, Greek and Indian food, but the best thing I've eaten abroad was a tuna carpaccio at Armazem do Sal in Funchal. (Rivalled by a some raw hereford beef at London's St John Bread and Wine last week. Looks like I have a thing for raw...)

The surf'n'turf at The Caves in Jamaica. On a wonderful trip with my husband. The combination of food, setting and atmosphere was unforgettable.

More recently, we celebrated our wedding anniversary at Gaucho in Richmond, Surrey. Quite posh in a footballers wives-y kind of way, but setting was lovely and amazing steaks.

What about Carnivore, Nairobi?

I took agents there in October. Meat is cooked on Masai warrior spears over huge hot bbqs in the middle of the restaurant. Meanwhile you are given a white flag. The meat is brought to your table, constantly. I ate ostrich and crocodile. Here's more info:

Whole joints of meat - legs of lamb and pork, haunches of exotic meat (Ostrich and crocodile when available), rumps of beef, sirloins, racks of lamb, spare ribs, sausages, chicken wings, skewered kidneys and other tasty morsels - are roasted on traditional Maasai swords over a huge charcoal pit that dominates the entrance of the restaurant. Constantly basted and turned until cooked to perfection, the meat is succulent and well flavoured. An army of carvers move from table to table carrying the Maasai swords laden with different prime meats which they carve onto the sizzling, cast iron plates in front of each guest. Accompanying the meat feast is a wide selection of salads and vegetable side dishes, and a variety of exotic sauces made from the Carnivore's own recipes.

A vegetarian menu is also offered.

Simply an incredible, fun evening, and quite unique in the world!

Going home now as am hungry!

That sounds pretty compelling Louise, and very accurately named. Worth a trip now we've been denied our 'barbecue summer'...

It's only £32 for lunch or dinner, which is a bargain! Itineraries from only £1399! Let me know. Trade discounts available through me subject to availability. Wink

The best ever meal and setting, had to be on a recent fam trip to St Lucia. Sitting at Jade Mountain, looking out over the pitons and forward on the crystal blue ocean. The views were stunning, the atmosphere electric and the food- well just simply divine.

I have to add Indonesian food to this conversation....!  Top 3 places to indulge so far this year

1. Kungkungan Bay Resort, Manado, Indonesia - fresh local food prepared for you every day!

2. Nusa Dua on Dean Street in Soho, London

3. Nancy Lam's Enak Enak on Lavender Hill, London

Satay, beef rendang, bakmi goreng etc all washed down with a Bintang - tops!

Have just celebrated my 50th Birthday in Fiscardo, Kefalonia and a great holiday with Exclusive Escapes (Why they never win a Travel Weekly award never ceases to amaze me!)

So after many meals and Greek Salads, time to celebrate! Fiscardo has a famous Greek Restaurant called Tassias, apparently the traditional Kefalonian meatpie is Legendry, and the chef and owner something of a celebrity having presented many programmes on Greek TV.

My wife had pre-booked a table, but not at Tassias,  at a Restaurant called LORD FALCON, A THAI RESTAURANT. The Meal was absolutly amazing and excellent Value for money. After all, having had Greek Salads for 12 Days this was a really unexpected and welcome change.

So If your'e on holiday in Fiscardo, give the Falcon a try, you won't regret it!

It is really strange when you go abroad and you end up eating Thai or Indian - you never expect to see those restaurants in Europe except in the bigger towns and cities.

I went to a noodle bar in Barcelona a few months ago and it felt very wrong not to be eating tapas!

To add something different to the conversation

1. A shack on the side of the road in North Carolina, BBQ was great...and in a fun place

2 Kalkan Turkey. Great restaurants over looking the sea, best at sunset.

3. To be boring a local restaurant in my town, all fresh local Norfolk produce served with great style (got me thinking may go there for sunday lunch @ 8 quid for 2 it is a bargin as well).

Right in the middle of the secondary virgin Jungle in Amazon, with no electricity or artificial lighting. The food was cooked by the local cooks hired by the tour company. It was basic food full of nutrition, taste and herbs. This truly was the best food, I have ever tasted and would remember it forever.

I was lucky enough to visit the jungle in Ecuador and the lodge where we stayed had a 'local' meat on the pizza, however the staff wouldn't tell us what the meat was. I think the group decided it must have been some kind of monkey. Definitely not my best meal! Ick!
