ABTA has put forward a proposal on the extension of the ATOL scheme to the Civil Aviation Authority,  ahead of a government review of the scheme later this year.

ABTA would like the ATOL to cover all holidays, whether they are packages or not, and even flight-only bookings.

But parliamentary secretary for transport Paul Clark said just last week:  "There are no plans to extend financial protection to all air passengers. The government rejected this option in 2005 as disproportionate to the risks involved and this remains our position."

What do you think of the proposal? What are the chances of the protection being extended?
