Oh deary me - Have you read the news about the new seat that has been designed for a fourth class of passenger by an Italian design firm called the Skyrider - Do you think passengers will go for it? I'm not to sure. They may be ok for short hops maybe.

The new Skyrider airplane seat design features a cushion shaped like a horse saddle.

There are a certain type of people who dont care how they get there as long as they arrive in one piece, so it will be a massive hit with them. Those with longer journeys are unlikely to put themselves through this in my opinion. Although it will be interesting to see while airline will be first to implement these new chairs.

When I first saw the details about these new aircraft seats I checked the calendar to make sure that it wasn't April 1st. I wouldn't want to be stuck in one of them, especially if the flight was more than 30 minutes or so.

We ran a story on it on Travolution actually - mercifully, the design "is considered by aviation insiders to have no chance of being approved by UK air safety regulator the CAA"

Which doesn't preclude you seeing it elsewhere, of course. Personally I don't fancy it much either... one commenter on Travo speculated that the point is "to get people to pay extra to avoid sitting in them"

I understand what you are saying Nathan I agree the CAA will say say no - however I would love to see their reasoning - although uncomfortable I can't see any real safety reason as to why not approve them

Nathan

Like the paying extra to avoid sitting in them part.. maybe one for ryanair?

Magnus. The CAA requires a G-force test and it is felt these would not pass.
