I would like to go into teaching as I have always had a passion for sharing knowledge and having studied Travel and tourism for 5 years I have developed a passion for the subject. To give you a bit of background I am a recent graduate who achieved a 1st in BSc Tourism Management and for the past year I have worked as an events manager in a 4* hotel. Unfortunately, I'm finding it quite difficult to get into. I applied for the PGCE to teach 14-19 yr olds Travel & Tourism but was turned down due to lack of experience in schools although my ambition is to teach in colleges or universities which is why I am now looking into teaching in the lifelong learning sector but don't want to limit my options too much as I have already found it very difficult to find opportunities within the industry I am so passionate about! I am also interested in HR and Training as it is linked to the skills required for teaching. I am concerned that I may have to go into another industry or area of specialism which would be disappointing If anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it, Many Thanks Jessica

If you want my opinion I wouldn't bother! I teach travel and tourism and it is nowhere near as worthwhile or rewarding as you think! Its hard work, often the students think it is an easy option with dreams of being a rep on one long holiday! The paperwork and legislation limits your teaching to a massive extent and the PGCE is a waste of time! At the moment teaching jobs are very scarce due to the credit crunch, I have recently left mine to go back into the industry as it was far too stressful, same thing every day and left me feeling very disillusioned! Get more experience in industry and re-think it in a few years time!
