Open skies has come into effect, theoretically ending restricitons on which airlines can operate between US and EU. However, the US seems to have come out better from the deal. For example, while the US will be able to buy up to 49% of an European airline, European airlines can only buy 25% of a US carrier. In addition, EU carriers will not have access to US domestic routes.

It will be interesting to see if increased competition will reduce fares. What will happen if the likes of  Ryanair's move into transatlantic market. What are your thoughts?

Air France and Delta Airlines have just announced plans to launch three new routes into the US. Agree, it will be interesting to see what this will mean for fares. Right now we will see a lot of new route announcements.
