Read the link - which takes you to the BBC News website. What do you think to this? I can see both sides of the story, but I really do feel like this is a violation of privacy, a step TOO far?

What do you think?

Not sure I like it either. You can see everything in that picture! On the plus side it will be good if it speeds up queues and removes the need for taking shoes, belts etc off.

Yes exactly that is why I am in two minds about it. Also the terrorism aspect of it is key to why they are introducing them. But still, it just seems so wrong! The thing with the 'pat downs' is they are only done if the security gate light goes off. It makes me cringe thinking about it!

Hmmmm, not sure about this one! Great if it speeds up security, but don't like the thought of being scanned myself!!

Queenbee, have any of your customers been through it yet? Let me know any feedback.

No we haven't had anyone yet, but obviously this trial is being run at Manchester Airport & this is one of our main airports we use, so I'm sure sooner or later we will have some feedback & I can imagine we will have a very mixed response!

I'd love to hear from other agents aswell if they have had any aggitated clients come back off their recent holidays!

As someone who is regularly search at airports (metal in thigh) I can say it is not fun to be felt up every time I fly, this is a much better option. I had to remove clothes 3 times and standing behind a screen with 3 security guards in my underwear while being felt up (frisked) which is a lot worse than this.

After all I can not see or feel the person carrying out the scan.

Plus keep in mind this is for people who fail the metal detector, not everyone.

Hi Nick - Thanks for your input, very interesting!

I didn't realise this scanner was for those who failed the metal detector - it reads in the story that it is compulsory for everyone to walk through it, or have I misconstrued the article?

hmmm - I am, however, still not convinced? CRINGEYYYYYYYYYYY!

I don't think that there would ever be a way of pleasing everyone - especially in this regard.

I hate having to take coats, belts & shoes off when I leave the UK... More often than not you don't have to when you fly out of other countries' airports, only ours it seems (and the USA).

I think the scanner itself is fine everyone's seen someone naked before in their life - it's not like the whole airport will see them on the info screens as you go through!

Just hope you don't get excited when you go through!!

Oh dear - this is my first post and what a subject!

I personally would rather risk my parts being all over the internet than my parts being scattered all over Berkshire or wherever the plane was at the time.

I always worry even now that someone will get through with enough equipment to get up to some serious mischief, and if this is what it takes to stop them, I'm all for it despite the undoubted unease it would cause me.

I think perhaps what many people fear is that someone behind the screens will be either sniggering or drooling over the pics, but they would be out of a job pretty smartish if that happened,  I imagine.

Just my opinion!

@andrewjonesuk - I can catergorically say that NEVER will everyone on this planet feel the same way about situations. I think this debate has really got people in two minds. As you say security is a lot ''tighter'' here in the UK & the USA but obviously the government feel this is the only way to stop these awful acts people get too. When I think of it that way, then I guess I'm happy to do it to save mine & other peoples lives. You would hope none of the other airport staff would see these images - but these days you can't even trust a childrens nursery/childrens secratary (who are MEANT to protect the innocent) How are we meant to trust a bloke resting a cup of coffee on his belly, eating a burger, or any other greasy food product you may want to imagine, with these images????????? (please do not be offended by that last comment! It was NOT a generalisation of an airport worker!)

@Mike_suntrapHolidays - Haha your point made me laugh, very true, I'd rather be safe than sorry!

Everytime I read all your thoughts on the matter I am being swayed and tugged in all directions about this!

Queenbee that is BBC good reporting... makes good headlines... but read in the story and they have a quote "instead of being frisked" so it for people who fail, after all not everyone is frisked

My apologies - all the reports on this just do not read that way do they? HMMMMMMM! Haha!

But it still seems that it's a very heated debate no matter what way!

OK...sorry but when I fly, the last thing I want to worry about is some creep scanning my hoo hoo for a gun. It is bad enough to have to walk barefoot on the airport floor, much less offering a free porn movie for the already slack security guards.

@ Palace Travel  - I take you are very much against  the Naked Scanners.

Has everyone heard they are 'sparing' under 18 year olds from going through the scanner?

What do you think to this?

Someone mentioned in a TV interview that they would not mind the Naked Scanner in the interest of the security as long as it was in a small room with one person looking at it instead of a whole audience.

I have no problem as I have nothing to hide and if it stops the terrorism, drugs etc then fine as long as they do not take the photos of my face to attach to the scanned body to put it on you tube, I'd be fine with it.

I do hope that no one brings the issue of human rights or religion into it to fume the flames. Big Smile

No reports yet, over here in Holland. As long as it enlarges safety, no one can have anything against it. It is just the idea of someone seeing every passenger practically naked. Then again, that might be not such a great job as many might think, hahaha

Well this thread ran and ran didn't it. It was so long I had to scroll down, as the operator of the naked scanner might say at the works party...

Here's a few other things you might overhear:

"Ere, come over here Bert and have a look at this.  What do you reckon, has he got a gun in his pocket or is he just pleased to be going on holiday?!!"

and

"Madam, you'll have to inch yourself over to the right a bit, love.  I haven't got wide-screen, you know."

Now, if I were a cartoonist, just think of the fun we could have with this...

No offence, anyone!

So this is back in the news again following the attempted terrorist attack on Christmas Day. The Daily Mail ran a front page today saying the scanners could be introduced at all UK airports and would lead to more queues but would we be any safer?

Following the events of the past week, has your view changed?

Happy New Year!

Yes, it seems to me inevitable that these will be introduced.  I was talking to a colleague about how pat-down searches avoid the private parts which presumably means that this man would have had a chance of getting the explosives on board even if he was frisked, which means for me that the sooner they introduce them the better, and that includes for the under-18s.  The Manchester trial was apparently advised not to use the scanner on children as the officers could theoretically be arrested for taking indecent images of children!!!  What nonsense is that?  Who in their right mind would apply the law in that way?  If that was applied to the live use of these machines, can you imagine where the explosives would end up?

Interestingly, rather than creating more delays, the Mail states:

"The machines would speed up checks as they eliminate the need for passengers to take off their shoes, belts, coats and scarves and would reduce the number who were then subjected to 'pat-down' searches."

So once it's all going smoothly, it could actually be faster - and arguably more dignified rather than less, as you would not have all that scrabbling about emptying your pockets and taking off all those lovely accessories..

I agree, sometimes you just have to see the bigger picture and the safety of everyone is the most important thing - there's no point only searching certain parts of the body.

Hi

Well my thread seems to have got people talking. so has anyone had any first hand experience with these naked scanners yet?

@MikeSuntrapHolidays - the jokes, ill give you a thumbs up for those! Very Clever!

As the title of your post suggest, its really is Naked Scanner , what you want to see more? I think this really effect every one you only scan those on whom you think they are guilty not all. this save time plus self respect. Cruise Reviews
