Hi guys!

I've been wanting to get into the travel industry for the past few months now - and after watching Globetrekker on Sky on a regular basis, I've become more & more passionate about getting into the travel industry.  Coming from a customer service/financial services background, and just wanting to explore the world, I'd love to get a career out of this.

The only issues are a) No experience at all in the Travel Industry b) companies wanting CRS experience c) not travelling enough due to financial commitments.  Based on where I am now, I was thinking of going down the route of Financial Services (cash handling involved) > Travel Money Advisor > Travel Agent as that is possibly the only way of doing what I'd like to do, without having any experience,

I've looked at apprenticeships, but they usually pay less than 1/3 of my current salary, and take 1 to 2 years!  I know for a fact I'd be committed and dedicated if I was given just one chance - but alas it's not always that easy.

Has anyone got any advice they can give me please?  Any would be appreciated!

Thanks

Hi there! Though it can be difficult to break into the industry without previous experience, there are some companies who look for key transferable skills! It’s best to contact companies direct - any target driven/sales experience would be beneficial; so whilst looking to break into travel, building up experience in sales contact centres is a good move to help boast your chances. Have you thought about some online travel training to gain the CRS experience? I wouldn’t necessarily suggest committing to a long-term course/qualification at this stage, as your destination knowledge and sales skills should be suffice to help you break in. However, studying to use a Centre Reservations System (CRS) such as Galileo will help you, as many travel companies use CRS and look for knowledge on this. Travel Trade Recruitment can help you with these courses. Just have a look at our website for more details at http://www.traveltradetraining.com Good luck!! Helen
