I guess we all have had embarrassing moments within our roles working in the travel industry. Having just read about Costa Cruises and in particular Marco Rosa moving in effect back to Italy one of my more embarrassing moments re-surfaced into my brain.
It was my second day on the job and I had travelled down to Southampton with a colleague for a visit on Costa Classica. Journeying with an ever growing urge to use a toilet, upon arrival I could not find an open one anywhere. After waiting in a queue for what seemed like hours I was relieved (no not in that way) when the queue finally moved and we were next to get on board.
We were greeted by a short stocky man in a smart suit who welcomed us aboard and in my eagerness to finally be able to rid my body of its angst my first words to him were “Where’s the bog mate?” Yes my brain had lost its ability to multi task and had taken on the singular role of survival, thus leaving the rest of my brain to forget any etiquette. The shocked gentleman was not sure what I had meant so I had to ask again, a little more slowly and using terminology that he understood. He muted something and pointed in the direction which the others in front of us had trod.
A few minutes later RELIEF! Finally, I thought, now I will be able enjoy my visit and off I went for a tour of the ship. All well and good until the inevitable presentation which was performed by Marco Rosa, the managing director and to my horror the same gentleman who was greeted by my immortal words “Where’s the bog?”
I have created many websites, including for cheap cruises, cruise deals and a new one attacking cruise holidays.
