The Civil Aviation Authority proposes a rise to £3 in the consumer levy on ATOL-protected holidays in a consultation document published today.

What impact do you think this will have on the industry?

Received this email from Noel Josephides, Sunvil managing director and ABTA board member. Unfortunately his Blackberry wouldn't let him post his comment directly...

I expected something between 2 and 3 pounds and seeing what is going on in the insurance industry at the moment I think this is a fair charge and hopefully after a few years this will go down.

What is even better is the willingness of the Govt to consult on bringing non-licensable turnover of atol holders into the scheme and also widening the scope of ATOL to cover any flight plus accommodation no matter how these two elements are booked. Such changes need primary legislation.

What I don't like is the hint that the big two will be treated differently and I don't see why. They have enough advantages anyway.

I think, this comes from a person who loves to be in the Travel industry but thinks to himself what sort of area he needs to go into. What i was saying was, the levy the CAA is thinking of or penciled in is cool. I would pay more, yes more if there were problems in the system of Travel. You have to look at maybe the hospitality of the government when heartaches happen. I feel by looking at press wires, The Foreign and Commonwealth Office and others do a responsible job.

A must for all i feel, I would buy it and i would sell it. I would not be comfortable without retailing to everyone.
