BAA’s new chief executive Colin Matthews is in bullish mood today as he makes the case for extra capacity for Heathrow.
For environmentalists, calls for a third runway are like a red rag to a bull and now it seems the David Cameron is willing to jump into the fray, on the side of the ‘greens’.
One thing’s for sure, raising the issue again is unlikely to distract the Competition Commission as it looks into BAA’s ownership of London airports. Despite Matthew’s protestations that the CC’s enquiry is focusing on the wrong issue, the seems pressure is on to break up BAA’s monopoly.
