There were disturbing revelations about airport security on Newsnight last night. It seems that while UK workers have to undergo a criminal check before being allowed to work airside, foreign workers are not checked because it would be “too complicated and take too long”!
This does nothing to instil confidence in the system and sounds particularly ridiculous given the increased security measures imposed on the general travelling public.
Meanwhile, I see Willie Walsh has made the astonishing admission that the T5 opening was disastrous! Addressing the Common’s transport committee, he also revealed staff had been given inadequate training, that the company had compromised on testing the new system and that he had been aware of the problems but decided to go ahead anyway.
I wonder what the future holds for Mr Walsh in the light of his confessions? A bonus?
