Interesting story on Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines taking part in an 'organisational raid' on communications giant Siemens.
The raid involves a number of companies taking a look at how a company delivers training, HR and so on.
RCCL's training manager David Chidley said the e-learning programme he saw at Siemens influenced the e-learning programme he has developed at the cruise line.
Chidley is so won over by the raid concept that RCCL is hosting one on Independence of the Seas on 15 October.
This is one we will be following up on. Be interesting to see if other travel companies are involved in these raids as they are enormously useful. Great to see a travel company looking outside of the travel sphere for new wyas of doing things.

Hi Martin...
Interesting that you have picked up on the raid concept...
The Cruising For Excellence training team have, for some time, been leading the way in the travel industry, when it comes to new, innovative training interventions. We realise that we are in a wonderful industry, where our products are world leading and exciting - so our training has to mirror that.
We realised early on though - that to keep things innovative, fresh, current and interesting to our travel partners we had to widen our scope and interact with training professionals from all industries and environments. It is amazing that on the face of it you would think a cruise line has very little in common with - Insurance Companies, Banks, Engineering companies, Universaties etc etc.. however the reality is that we all need to engage the learner - no matter what the subject is (we are just fortunate that ours is a little more "sexy" (in our eyes) than a turbine engine!
We have learnt a lot from other training professionals across the world (which is why our online programme, our virtual classrooms and our face to face training proves to be very popular)It has been said that these other indsustries are also learning from us as well.
The raid onboard Independence of the Seas at the end of last year was a huge success, with requests already coming in for us to host another one at the end of this year! The Cruising For Excellence Team are also speaking at conferences through out the UK about our Elearning Programme and use of social communities in the Travel Industry.. so we are being looked at as training intervention leaders.
We would love to have more training professionals from the travel industry join us on our journey of discovery and truly making the training our travel partners receive renowned as the best their is.
If anyone would like to know more about what we do and offer, we can be contacted at

Martin, thanks so much for picking up on this story.. it will be interesting if we can generate some discussions about it through your blog
Best Wishes
