Hotel Fashionista

versace.jpg

Luxury fashion houses are migrating from the catwalk to the corridor as one by one they enter the hotel business.

It started with the Palazzo Versace in Australia's Gold Coast in 2000 (right) and now Armani, Moschino and Missoni are following in Versace's haute-couture footsteps.

Is this a good way for luxury hotels to offer a point of difference in a highly competitive market? Or just another gimmick that's unlikely to take off?

Jackie David:

Couture by Versace and Armani may cost an arm and a leg but personally I find them vulgar. Perhaps their designs will look better adorning hotel roomd than human beings?

Chloe:

I agree, you can see the Versace garish gold and blue reflected in the decor. Not my taste! The Bulgari Hotel (www.bulgarihotel.com) in Milan is much nicer.

What's the price difference like? I assume there's a smaller differential between ordinary hotels and the Versace hotel than there is between an ordinary dress and a Versace dress.

I also think the fashion bootleg market should get in on this. In fact, I'm off to buy a royal blue bedspread and a counter bell ;)
