The Co-operative Travel has appointed Justine Bates as HR manager for retail. Bates joined the department on 3 November, and will report directly to head of HR Jayne Webb.

Prior to joining The Co-operative Travel, Justine spent seven years with Lunn Poly, where she worked in customer services and HR, before moving to First Choice in 2000 to establish the HR department for Travel Choice - the retail arm of First Choice Holidays - where she stayed until earlier this year.

Trade-only car rental company Affordable Car Hire has appointed Michael Stevens to the newly created role of director of global sales.

Stevens, 56, is well known to the UK and international travel trade, with 27 years' experience working in global markets, including 10 years at Accor, where he was director of global leisure sales.

He previously worked for tour operator American Vacations, based in the US, and for the past four years has served as a board member for the Institute of Travel and Tourism.

Angela Day, managing director of Affordable Car Hire, said: "We are thrilled that Michael has joined Affordable Car Hire, and his expertise will help us move the company to the next level.
"Michael has an excellent knowledge of international markets and has been brought in to build on existing partnerships and to bring in new suppliers."

Aaron Weir has been appointed area sales manager for Northern Ireland and Scotland at Stena Line Freight.

He previously worked for Montgomery Transport as Transport Operator. Prior to this he worked for Woodside Haulage in a number of positions including Senior Traffic Operator.

In his new role, Weir will focus on the freight and haulier sectors, maintaining and developing existing and new clients on the Irish Sea routes. 

 

The Bermuda Department of Tourism has appointed William Griffith as its new director of tourism.

Griffith brings a wealth of hospitality knowledge to the position. His previous roles have included:

  • President of the Hotel Employers of Bermuda
  • Chairman of the Bermuda Hotel Association Marketing Committee
  • President of the Bermuda Hotel Association. 

Griffith was also a member of the Board of Governors at the Bermuda College, Chairman of the Stonington Beach Hotel Committee, a member of the Board of Tourism and Co-chair of the Bermuda Alliance for Tourism.

In his new role, Griffith will continue the work already set in motion to position Bermuda as a premier beach holiday destination but also to promote the country's additional offerings such as golf, spas and diving. 

 


 

Eurostar has appointed Emma Harris as its new sales and marketing director (UK & International). She will take up her new position on 17 November.

Harris will be responsible for all sales and marketing activity in both the UK and international markets. She will also have responsibility for brand management and the development of the Eurostar product.

Harris joined Eurostar's business sales team in 2001 from Bass Brewers where she was a national account manager. She has risen through the ranks becoming Head of Business Sales, then Director of UK Sales, before taking on the International markets in 2005.

More recently, Harris led the change management programme for Eurostar's successful move to St Pancras International.

Royal Brunei Airlines has appointed Alison Innes-Power as manager sales - UK. Innes-Power rejoins Royal Brunei, having worked with the airline between 1991 and1995 as senior sales executive. 

After 1995, Alison worked for several companies including Meridiana, Air New Zealand - where she represented the company in the STAR Alliance Leisure Sales Programme - and more recently with Qantas.

Royal Brunei Airlines is also pleased to announce the recent transfer of Alex Willis to the role of manager of traffic operations (responsible for outstation airports), now based in Brunei Darussalam. Alex has been appointed into this role having worked as station manager at Heathrow Airport.

Royal Brunei Airlines fly from London Heathrow daily to Dubai, Asia and Australasia.

Niall McDevitt appointed European CEO at Auto Europe

Auto Europe has appointed of Niall McDevitt as new European CEO, to further develop the company's growth in the UK.

McDevitt joined Auto Europe in 2002, bringing with him 14 years of experience in the travel and transport industry.  As joint managing director of Auto Europe Germany, he has been responsible for all central European markets, and is also on the Board of Destination Auto Europe Ireland Ltd, and Auto Europe South Africa.

Commenting on his appointment, Niall said: "In the last six years, I have watched the UK division of Auto Europe go from strength to strength, with an excellent team that has defied the current economic environment to ensure continued growth and improvement of services.  I am proud to now be a part of it and will look forward to seeing the company build on these successes."

 

 

Kaleidoscope Travel Group, the parent company of Travelsphere, Page and Moy and Just You has appointed William Burton as group chief executive officer.

Burton joins the Kaleidoscope Travel Group from the Rural Payments Agency where he held the position of interim chief operating officer, leading a staff of 4,000 officers and inspectors.

He brings a wealth of knowledge to the company with over 15 years' experience in the travel and hotel sector at companies including British Airways, Thomson Holidays, Thistle Hotels, Air Miles and Kuoni in a variety of top level sales, marketing, operations and general management positions.

 

Online travel company Cheapflights has announced the appointment of Spencer Davies as senior account manager.

Davies will be based in London and report to Cheapflights' head of sales, Sarah Hanan. He brings a wealth of experience from both travel and non-travel companies.

Davies spent four years working as a senior account manager at Teletext where he earned an excellent reputation for delivering significant return to the business.

He spent the past 18 months working as a partner manager with Jackpotjoy.com and began his career working for IPC Media where he quickly progressed to a senior role with their marine titles.

Former XL Leisure Group's regional sales manager Abbey Thomas has joined the UK's fastest growing holiday transfer company, A2B Transfers.com as their new national sales manager.

Helen Adamou appointed sales and marketing manager for Air Namibia in the UK. She joins from Club Med where she was aviation manager.

With a strong travel background Helen began her career at Cyprus Airways where she spent 24 years as head of direct sales and distribution.

Helen then moved to Ajet Aviation as commercial manager in scheduled services before working her way up to at Club Mediterranee.
 
Part of her new role at Air Namibia will be to increase brand awareness among the travel trade and consumers, and longer term to achieve a booking increase on the London Gatwick - Windhoek direct route. 
 

UK hotel operator Ramada Jarvis has appointed Linda Watson as regional director for Scotland.

Watson has held a number of roles in the hotel industry and has worked for the Ramada brand in the UK since 1996. Posts include general manager for Ramada Ayr and the Ramada Mount Royal Hotel in Edinburgh.

In her new role as Regional Director for Scotland, Linda will be responsible for the seven Scottish Ramada Jarvis properties. 

 

Jet2.com and Jet2holidays.com have appointed Alan Cross as group trade sales manager. 

Cross has 30 years' experience in the travel industry and  will work across both the Jet2.com and Jet2holidays.com brands to build and maintain trade relationships for both the airline and holiday operator and to launch a number of new initiatives focused specifically towards travel agents.

Cross previously had a range of posts in the travel industry including key account manager for TW Group in which he worked for Gazetters.com, TW Academy and Travel Weekly.

Teletext Holidays sales director Victoria Sanders is to become sales and distribution director of the firm's retail arm Thisistravel.co.uk.  

Sanders will assume responsibility for the Hertford-based operation and replaces Samantha Lloyd who resigned recently. Lloyd had been in the role for 10 months.

Sanders will continue to report into Teletext Holidays managing director Matt Cheevers.
The role of sales director for Teletext Holidays will remain vacant for the time being.
