Are TW and its readers still 'predictable' over Ryanair?
October 13, 2009
Twitter hosted some inevitable chatter about the Panorama show on Ryanair.
Former Travolution editor Kevin May, never terribly sympathetic to the traditional bad blood between travel agents and Ryanair, tweeted:
But yes, in the past we've probably been too ready to stir up the antipathy we know many agents feel/felt.
For the record, my impression was that our readers had figured out Ryanair's game plan and were tired of the airline getting undue prominence in the media - I can well remember the fatigue and cynicism that greeted the 'pay to pee' story.
The punchline? As a result, I placed the Ryanair/BBC story at the bottom of yesterday's email news alert... only to find it became comfortably the most-read article.

Justified? On this occasion, I don't think so - we ran a straight-up-and-down story on the spat between Ryanair and the BBC, and TTG did the same. Theirs generated (at time of writing) only three comments, two of them pro-Ryanair.utterly predictable responses from press and readers every time ryanair mentioned

How lovely to get a mention in Travel Weekly dispatches once more. :-)
In my defence, I can only say that I was talking retrospectively about the treatment historically that Ryanair has received from the trade media and their O'Leary-bashing readers.
Alas I only had 140 characters.
Note to self: must read TW email alerts in future, not least to see how little importance it has given to the latest Ryanair spat.
Keep up the good work, sir.

Yeah, I know... It's not so much an attack on you, I'm more interested in whether the stock response to Ryanair has changed. Agents still aren't keen, but I think the foaming-at-the-mouth stuff has got a bit old. Law of diminishing returns and all that.
(Now watch the next story get 3,000 livid comments.)

Why bother commenting on Ryanair attacking a program that they have not seen... did they have something to worry about... why bother commenting on Ryanair, they do what they wish anyway? There are more members of I hate ryanair than a lot of airlines carry... love them or hate them, they are good at getting in the press.
