Video: Holidaying in Blackpool in the 1950s

July 23, 2008

With all the news of a resurgent UK holiday market, TW thought it time to look up some vintage UK holiday footage. Here we have a short film capturing 1950s Blackpool.

It was made by British Transport Films.

Check out the rides . . .

The appeal of Blackpool and other traditional UK seaside resorts is definitely increasing. I think the weak Euro and the problems recently with tour operators and airlines going bust are 2 large effects. For me personally, it is about change and the fact that for many families, each year is the same kind of holiday, sun shine yes, but just a beach, sam old same old. The interaction you can have with the family on a holiday in the Uk is ten fold.
