Pictures: Suites on Singapore Airlines' Airbus A380
October 15, 2007
Our stablemate Flight International has been out at the delivery of the first of Airbus's A380 'Superjumbos' to Singapore Airlines in Toulouse - and they've got pictures from the 'Suites' class.
Says Flight:
The Suites class consists of 10 private cabins behind sliding doors. Inside each private cabin are 35in-wide leather seats that convert into 1.98m-long single beds and, in two cases, double beds
Very swish...

I wonder how much a "seat" on this plane will cost?

Good question.
Based on a flight from Singapore to Sydney departing 22 November and returning 28 November, Singapore Airlines charges...
£2519.28 inc taxes and fees for first class (on a B747-300)
£3622.47 inc taxes and fees for suites class (on the A380)

As we know the first successful flight has finally taken place yesterday. Airbus claims the fuel efficiency of "2.9 liters of fuel per passenger for every 100km" looks too good to be true but a company like Airbus must have done enough research before publishing their statistics. Thats comparable to the modern hybrid cars.
I found this picture on the internet which really shows the size of the place .. (cars look tiny ants in front of it)

The bigger issue is terminal space. There just isn't enough space to park an A380 at most airport terminals. Airbus has spent an estimated $15 billion on the development of the A380. The price for a single plane is listed at $300 million. I have used Singapore Airlines many times to go visit Singapore and looking forward to take a ride on A380 next time.

Singapore Airlines will enjoy 10 months of exclusive service with the A380 until Emirates takes delivery. From what I've read and seen this aircraft is truly something for the 21st Century.
Sadly, this jet has a limited market because of the size and cost you've got to fill nearly every seat to make money. So this aircraft will be used for long haul flights across the oceans.
Airports in the US are currently in process to upgrade there terminals to handle the size with dual level jetways, these airports should be ready soon to handle the flights coming to the US. The silver lining on the production delay is that these airports are close to being ready, had the jet come out on time those airports would not even be close.
This is a great day for Airbus Industries, while Boeing has its own delays on the 787 which appears to serve a smaller travel market, the A380 will dominate international travel for decades.
