Freezing fog continues to disrupt flights

Airports are advising travellers to check with their airline as freezing fog continues to disrupt services in the UK and in Europe.

The weather conditions have caused delays and cancellations for the past two days and disruption looks set to continue today.

Heathrow airport said: “Fog is affecting flights in the UK and Europe. We are sorry for any disruption to your journey today. Please check the status of your flight with your airline before travelling to the airport.”

A message on London City’s website read: “Due to adverse weather conditions flights are experiencing delays, diversions and cancellations, passengers are advised to contact their airline for the latest flight information.”

And Luton airport said yesterday that weather related issues for Air Traffic Control were affecting flight departures, however, arrivals were unaffected.

Yesterday easyJet reported experiencing visibility problems at Gawick and at Amsterdam which were causing extended delays across its network.

The airline said: “We are continuing to review the weather and are working hard to minimise delays where possible. The knock on effect of the weather is likely to last for the rest of today and into tomorrow.”
