Wizz Air finance chief unexpectedly quits

The finance chief of Wizz Air abruptly quit the budget carrier yesterday after six months, citing “a change in personal circumstances”.

Chief financial officer Sonia Jerez Burdeus resigned to relocate to her native Spain where she will take up another job.

She will remain with the airline for her full notice period to March 13, 2017, overseeing the its interim management statement for the third quarter of the current financial year.

Burdeus, who previously worked for Spanish low fare airline Vueling, joined Wizz Air in June.

The eastern and central European low cost carrier has started the process of recruiting a new CFO, with a further announcement to be made in due course.

Burdeus said: “I am sad to be leaving Wizz Air as, during my time here, I have enjoyed being part of a strong, successful company and dynamic team.

“It is for personal reasons that I have decided to move back to my native Spain and, in the course of managing those issues, an opportunity developed which allows me to do so.”

Group chief executive Jozsef Váradi said: “We are obviously disappointed to see Sonia Jerez leave the company but understand that personal considerations can take precedence over professional life.

“We thank Sonia for her contribution and wish her well.”
