Norwegian plots global expansion following approval for US services

Norwegian is to power ahead with global expansion after finally winning the green light for its Irish-based EU arm to serve the US.

The message came from chief executive Bjørn Kjos as Europe’s third largest low-cost carrier reported a 16% rise in passenger carryings in November to almost 2.3 million over the same month last year.

Long-haul routes contributed 70% passenger growth and the overall load factor was up by one percentage point to 84%.

Kjos said: “We are very pleased that both new and loyal customers choose to fly with Norwegian.

“Our transatlantic growth will continue now that the US Department of Transportation has finally given our EU carrier a permit to fly to and from the US.

“This means that Norwegian can continue its global expansion with full force and open new destinations all over the world.

“The approval also means that we can create more jobs in Europe and the US, as well as contributing to local economies through increased tourism.”
