Flybe starts operating additional Birmingham flights

Flybe has started operating the first of the 68 additional domestic flights from Birmingham while runway resurfacing work takes place at East Midlands airport.

Additional services have been laid on by the airline to Glasgow, Edinburgh and Belfast City Airport.

The aim is to assist East Midlands’ travellers inconvenienced during the temporary three-day closure each week until December 19.

This involves resurfacing and strengthening of the existing runway together with the replacement of current lighting with LED fittings.

The work to the runway started on November 5, resulting in the airport being shut from Saturday night until Monday night until December 10.

The final closure is scheduled to occur between 8pm on December 17 until 1pm on December 19.

Flybe is operating an additional two flights a week on Sundays and Mondays on both Birmingham to Glasgow and Edinburgh services, as well as an additional flight to and from Belfast City on Mondays.
