Choice Hotels plans first Turkish Ascend property

The upscale Ascend Hotel Collection is to be introduced in Turkey by Choice Hotels International.

The company plans to initially develop three Ascend Hotel Collection properties in conjunction with a local real estate development firm, Sevkon.

The first boutique hotel is planned for Alacati Beach on the Cesme peninsular, an hour’s drive from Izmir, early in 2017.

The 128-room hotel will feature an outdoor swimming pool, fitness facilities, Turkish hamam and an İtalian sea food restaurant as well as an la carte restaurant.

Additional sites have been secured to develop two hotels over the next three years in Ayvalik, Cunda Island, a seaside town on the Aegean coast north of Izmir, and in Mazi, a new resort development area south of Bodrum.

Choice’s current portfolio in Turkey comprises three Clarion Hotels in Istanbul and one located in the southern city of Kahramanmaraş, known as Maraş.

Ascend Hotel Collection was created in 2008 and now has more than 160 hotels in destinations such as New York, Miami, Napa Valley, Sydney, Stockholm, Nice, Edinburgh and Dublin.

Georg Schlegel, managing director of Choice Hotels Central Europe, said: “We believe that our upscale brand is very suitable and appropriate for many existing high quality boutique hotels in Turkey and look forward to rapidly developing our presence.”
