Koningsdam dedication to be live-streamed

Holland America Line (HAL) is to stream the dedication of new ship Koningsdam by Queen Maxima of the Netherlands on its website on Friday morning.

The event is due to take place from 9.30am UK time as the 2,650-passenger vessel is docked in Rotterdam – the original home of HAL.

A group of 15 top agents from the UK will be attending Friday’s ceremony alongside many HAL repeat passengers.

The largest ship in the line’s fleet is the first of a new Pinnacle class and will have Queen Maxima as its godmother.

Koningsdam entered service last month and 35 UK agents and operator partners were on board for a six-night preview cruise in the Mediterranean.

More agents will have the chance to visit the ship during its maiden summer season of northern Europe sailings from Amsterdam either when it makes calls into Newcastle, Edinburgh and Portland or on a series of weekend trips to the Dutch port being organised over the summer.

The company’s first new ship in six years is almost 15% larger than its predecessors and includes a series of new features, including ocean view cabins for families and accommodation for single travellers.

Other elements include Music Walk, three stages for live performances of classical, blues and chart hits, a two-storey theatre including a 270-degree high definition LED screen and a culinary arts centre for cookery classes.
